my COUNSELING approach
"Eat happily, live healthfully, and stay in the present."
80/20 RULE
No one should ever feel guilty about eating. Life is meant to be lived and food is one of the pleasures of life. To avoid seesawing on diet bandwagons, I can work with you on balancing healthy foods 80% of the time and treating yourself to "other" foods the rest of the time so we can learn to appreciate that food can be both nutritious and enjoyable. I will bring a good dose of evidence-based critical thinking into your nutritional habits, while encouraging supportive eating attitudes. I hope to bring simplicity into your healthy diet lifestyle, making a balanced, varied diet a breeze.
Cultural FOCUS
Eating is as much about food preferences as it is about an individual’s culture and lifestyle. Immigration to a new country often leads to a shift in nutritional lifestyle and food environment from the country of origin, causing an increased risk of chronic diseases and a tendency to adopt unhealthy habits from our environment. My approach includes having open discussions about family traditions, cultural practices, importance of freshly prepared meals, ethnic foods, and other aspects of socio-cultural behaviour. Together we will discuss the positive elements of both traditional and Western diets for the prevention of chronic disease to shape a diet lifestyle suitable for you.
Personalized nutritional guidance
All individuals are unique, coming from diverse social, cultural backgrounds. I use a person-centred approach on a wide variety of general nutritional issues, including assessing healthy weight attitudes. Whether it be challenges managing blood sugar with a family history of obesity, or diabetes management for seniors, making healthy meals for working professionals, or a student on a tight budget, I can guide you to be adaptable and competent in choosing delicious and healthy food options. I'll help you find a nutritional lifestyle that is achievable, sustainable, and effective to meet your personal health goals without yo-yo dieting. Let me show you how eating is part of self-care and you are worth it.
