MEET EVON

Evon is a Certified Nutritional Therapist, a Member of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT), and a Professional Member of the Canadian Nutrition Society. She obtained her degree in Food and Nutrition (BSc.), receiving clinical training under the BC Providence Health Authority in 2014. After a family crisis, she encountered what many immigrant families face - distinct socio-cultural and language barriers in the public healthcare system. She realized the necessity of offering private family-based and culturally-focused nutrition support. Evon supports clients from a range of ethnic backgrounds to achieve their best health through individualized, integrative, and evidence-based diet counselling.

Evon has nearly a decade of experience in private and public sectors in various public health roles.

Her early involvement in health policy with the City of Richmond Public Health Unit has led to her current daytime pursuits - ensuring Canadians have access to safe, compliant and effective health products in the market.  With over a decade of experience in the natural, health and wellness sectors, Evon's dual role as a Regulatory Affairs professional strives to develop collaborative relationships and dialogues between government and industry. She supports the industry by developing policy trend insights to address regulatory compliance challenges for product development and managing global licensing portfolios of Natural Health Products (NHP's), dietary supplements, foods, personal care products, and OTC drugs in North America and Asia-Pacific regions.

Evon earned her Master of Public Health (MPH Hons.) in 2019, focusing on public policy and nutritional health promotion from the University of Edinburgh, UK. Her integrated thesis was on assessing Health Canada's new Self-Care Product Regulatory Framework in its suitability, evidence, and readiness to address problems of safe selection and use of Natural Health Products among Canadians.  During this time Evon represented as an industry stakeholder with Health Canada to provide policy feedback, contributing to the amendment of the federal Natural Health Product Regulations in 2020.

Her academic interests include the development of federal and international health policy, as well as focuses on immigrant nutritional health.

Combining health promotion program needs of immigrant seniors with volunteer student services, Evon co-founded the Coffee Cart Program at the Richmond Community Dialysis Unit mentoring undergraduates interested in a career in healthcare and building cross-generational community connections.

On the weekend, you might find Evon plugged into international news, counseling psychology books/podcasts, visiting ethnic grocery stores, honing her culinary skills, and experimenting with recipes.
